The Public Information Act provides individuals the right of access to governmental records. Any information that is collected, assembled, or maintained by or for a governmental body is subject to the Public Information Act. The format of the record (paper, electronic, etc.) does not affect its status as a public record. All government information is presumed to be available to the public, although certain exceptions may apply.
Your Rights as a Requestor of Public Information
- Requests for public information must be in writing to trigger the Authority’s obligations under the Public Information Act.
- Requests should be for information that is already in existence, as governmental bodies are not required to answer questions, perform legal research, or comply with a continuing request to supply information on a periodic basis as such information is prepared in the future.
- Requests should be addressed to the Records Manager.
