Description
The SJRA Woodlands Division owns, operates, and maintains over 121 miles of water lines 12-inches in diameter and larger, of which over 48 miles are Asbestos Cement (AC) water lines installed between 1973 and 1995. To maintain the high level of service expected by the residents of The Woodlands, SJRA wants to be proactive in its management of assets and replace them as needed prior to their end of useful life. As AC water lines make up a majority of the oldest water lines in the system, SJRA is developing a strategy to determine their remaining useful life to include desktop analysis of existing data (including break data), previous studies and reports, data collection, field and laboratory testing, and engineering analysis. This project will lead to a prioritization of AC water line replacement project packages by location and include a replacement schedule. The project includes the desktop study, destructive and non-destructive testing, and the work to access the water line for samples and non-destructive testing access. SJRA, HDR, and vendors will be in the field assessing condition of various segments of AC waterline throughout The Woodlands.
